Stories of Us - November 14, 2018

Partnership Educators,

As the young boy approached the desk, he kept his eyes transfixed on the worn out shoes that were given by the neighbor who knew he needed them.   The day doesn't always start the way a most nine-year-olds start.  No cartoons or pleasant encouragement to get ready for school.  Usually a lot of yelling and hurrying to get out.     Once at the counter, a kind voice rings through the morning fog and he lifts his eyes to catch the smile of a familiar every morning friend.   "Good morning!  So glad you are here."  The kindness melts into his being and the downtrodden eyes turn up with a smile as he knows that he is safe and soon to be fed a meal that will prepare him for his day of learning.

We have superheroes among us who set the tone for the day for our students who show up looking for love.   One such hero is Carolyn Bloom the head cook at Bonny View School.  Never without a smile and caring for child and adult alike.   It is with great pleasure and a proud moment to announce that Carolyn is the 2018/19 California School Nutrition Association's Employee of the Year.  Congratulations Carolyn and thank you for your service to your school family each and every day.    This last weekend she was presented with her award at the CSNA conference in Long Beach.   As her supervisor puts it, "Every day Carolyn reports to the kitchen with a smile on her face and love in her heart providing not only amazing food but also friendship and compassion to each and every child that walks into her cafeteria."

Congratulations again and thank you.  Your Redding School District and Partnership family is proud to be working alongside you.
