Stories of Us - February 15, 2019

Partnership Educators,

One winter morning I woke to see snow falling from the sky and it piled high on the ground.  The feeling inside a six-year-old is one of pure joy and excitement.    I mean, as most of you know, even way back in 1968 snow in Redding was not something that you see all the time.   As a young child, it was magical and wonderful to play in the snow in your front yard and to walk to Sequoia School and play games with your friends.  The snow drifts created by the plows in front of my family home seemed so large.  I remember my father not being happy that he couldn't get the car out of the driveway with drifts so high.  It was just before Christmas and so that made it even more magical.  I hope your stories about the snow this week are filled with happy moments and pleasures like when I was a child playing in the snow outside my family home.  I still feel that way today when snow falls.  I really love listening to the quiet and cracking of nature as it prepares to hold the weight of the glimmering fluff.

As we move into this week off, I wish you and yours all the best.  I really want to thank our custodians and maintenance crews for their work this week to prepare our schools for the time after the break.  As a child, we don't always see the consequences of the beauty of white flakes falling from the sky.  But we have superior individuals who care deeply about our schools and the safety of everyone in them and so their work these last two days have been heroic.  They came up with a plan and executed it well.

Enjoy your time off,
Rob
